Josie Heath collection, 1960-1990 (bulk 1976-1990).

The collection contains the papers of Boulder County politician and activist, Josie Heath (1937- ) spanning from 1970 to 1990. It is comprised of correspondence, newspaper and magazine articles, photographs, memorandums, pamphlets, and minutes from her political campaigns and various other committees and organizations. Also included are papers from her time as Boulder County Commissioner, as well as the women's organizations Heath helped to establish and promote.

Josie Ward Heath was born in San Jose, California in 1937, however, Heath was raised in Forest Grove, Oregon by her mother for the early part of her life. In third grade, her mother, a waitress in the bus depot cafe, married her father, who was a clerk at a local hardware store. Heath was exposed to social injustice at the young age of nine when she worked in the fields with migrant workers picking beans and strawberries to buy clothes for herself.(1) Heath continued working through...
